Your terrible drunken behaviour might not actually be your fault say scientists
Remember that time you got so drunk that you urinated all over your father-in-law’s shoes, tied a broomstick to your back, filled your pockets with cheese and declared yourself ‘The Broom From The Moon’?
No? Of course you don’t. You were drunk. Black out, steaming drunk. But don’t worry – it wasn’t your fault. None of it was ever your fault.
At least according to scientists at the University of Helsinki who have discovered a genetic mutation that suggests certain people are just destined to be terrible, erratic and embarrassing drunks.
The gene anomaly which was found in 2.2 per cent of the population in Finland is thought to enhance impulsive behaviour while under the influence of alcohol.
In fact, if you have the mutation you’re not even safe when you’re sober – with results showing that people with the mutation are generally impulsive in all states. Struggling with self-control, mood disorders and general dodgy wrongdoings. The research could open new doors in the treatment of impulsive behaviour.
But until then, it also gives us all a perfect excuse for explaining away last night's drunken antics. Sure, the chances of you actually falling within that 2.2 per cent category are slim but, hey, who’s going to argue with science?
