ASOS release vintage Romeo & Juliet inspired collection
A stylish homage to the 1996 Leonardo DiCaprio version
Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 modern day version of Romeo & Juliet is probably the most stylish movie of all time.
The unbuttoned silky revere collar shirts, the bright florals, the flaming sacred heart and dagger motifs, it was the epitome of outrageous Nineties style that catapulted a young Lenoardo DiCaprio to heartthrob status, and what inspired a generation of lads to run the risk of an indecent exposure charge for exposing too much nip in public.
Dressing like a Montague was normally left to Halloween; a cop out of a costume for those wanting to pull rather than be scary. But now you can dress like a Venice Beach extra 365 days of the year, as ASOS has released a Romeo & Juliet collection under their Reclaimed Vintage brand, which reworks authentic retro garments from around the world.
The 12-piece collection consists of revere collar shirts in lightweight fabric adorned with designs paying homage to the cult movie, which includes angel statues, antique keys, sacred hearts and florals.
Other standout pieces include a studded leather biker jacket with Star Crossed Lovers painted on the back, embroidered Levi’s 501 jeans and a surplus military jacket with a Montague emblem on the back.
