Nike Could Be About To Finally Announce The Release Of Self-tying Trainers
Where we’re going, we don’t need laces.
In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s Back to the Future Day, meaning unless you can hit 88mph in a DeLorean then the date Marty travels to in the future will no longer be the actual future. Terrifying.
But as the world prepares itself for the horrible thought of 22 October, there may be some bittersweet relief with news that Nike has teased the release of its Power-Lace Air Mags, worn in the film by Michael J Fox and coveted by fanboys and sneaker headds for years.
With Nike tweeting the actor with the line “See you tomorrow”, there’s a good chance we’re about to witness some sort of release, and with it a huge rush for the early Christmas wish-list sales. While the Air Mag has had a number of limited-edition releases, it’s never been equipped with actual power-laces.
Despite having filed a patent for the automatic lacing system in 2013, it was only this January that a Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, let slip that he and his team were working on the shoe, which got virtual tongues wagging once again when this Tweet came out in September.
We’ll have more updates when we have them. In the meantime we're off to makes calls to Mattel and Pepsi.
