The Self-Tying Trainers From Back To The Future Could Be In Shops In October
Enticing trainer geeks like celebrity guest appearances do Taylor Swift, the Nike Mags seen in Back to the Future Part II are pretty much the holy grail of casual footwear. So casual in fact that they tie themselves.
And some 26 years since Marty donned a pair of Nike’s self-tying lace ups - a time period in which we’ve seen limited-edition pairs fleetingly appear and then disappear at the hands of some anonymous high bidder – these babies could be finally set to land on general sale.
A Tweet by Max Erdenberger, a former art director at the advertising agency which made Nike famous, picturing him holding a pair along with the date 21 October, 2015, has set tongues wagging about whether they are coming to retail on that very date. A date that makes perfect sense given that it's also the same date Marty travels to in the classic sequel, making it a fitting time to release the shoes.
Naturally, if this turns out to be true, prepare yourself for a frantic rush for film merchandise in the run up to Christmas. Especially with Disney's new range of Star Wars Force Awakens goodies selling like proverbial hot cakes.
